Dictate Your Future With a Vision Board

Many celebrities and influentials have begun to highlight the importance of mapping out your future. A creative and unique way to do this is with a vision board. A vision board is a simple, yet powerful visualization tool that activates the universal law of attraction to begin manifesting your dreams into reality. The idea behind this is that when you surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires.

The concept of the vision board (also known as a goal board, goal map, or treasure map) has been around for generations, but it’s gained a renewed interest and popularity after success expert John Assaraf related his story of using vision boards to achieve his dreams in the best-selling DVD documentary The Secret.

The vision board is also effective in the way that it helps you to physically see and continue to work for what you eventually want to manifest in your life. However, before you create a board make sure to carefully reflect on what it is that you want. A few steps to help you get started are below:

Step 1: Determine your current perspective on life

Have you accomplished any of your goals? Are you currently feeling stuck or unfulfilled with school, work or other aspects of your life? Are you not where you thought you would be at this point in life? Well that is the fuel you need to get the ball rolling on a vision board. No more excuses, especially the “I should be grateful for what I have.” Of course you should be thankful, but there is a difference between being thankful and settling for complacency. I specifically crafted this article for the New Year so that our readers can have a fresh start on their lives. Envision what you want to transpire!

Step 2: Choose a new perspective

This is where the law of attraction comes in. What you innately think about will eventually come to life with concrete thought and action. In addition to placing positive affirmations on your vision board, place a few throughout your room, on your books or in your cubicle. My bedroom mirror has a statement, “Chin up, beautiful” in my bright red lipstick because I look at it daily. So whenever I look in the mirror, I see that affirmation.

Step 3: Write out a list of wants

These will help to support the images that you cut out or create. If you want your own business, look for positive slogans related to entrepreneurship. Cut out a picture of your favorite business owner or brand.

Step 4: Create a time line that you can follow

This will help you to strategically accomplish your goals. Be sure that the time line is specific and measurable with action steps. Attach a date to each step so you will know when it needs to be completed. It can be helpful to do this exercise with a partner or in a group.

Step 5: Share your vision board and time line with a trusted source

This is an excellent opportunity for bonding with a significant other, supervisor or a good friend. They will make sure that you are working on your goals and if you are not they should hold you accountable.

After you are done with your vision board, be sure to position it in a place where you can consistently draw inspiration from it. Don’t just throw it on a desk under some papers. Use it as a law of attraction. Wake up to it and fall asleep with those images and affirmations freshly on your mind. Dream it, see it, live it, become it!

  1. This is a great article and great way to start off the new year. Lets end the complacency.

  2. Very true and thank you! The vision board is a great way to manifest the dreams that we all have…we just have to use it wisely!

  3. Two great things I love about this: Step 4 – realistic timeline eliminates the magic wand aspect many complain about and Step 5 – sooooo totally agree that a shared intention, visually and verbally, creates a superhighway to making it happen.

Great article! Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. It’s a funny thought I got to this website post via a google search about vision boards in the first place, lol, but I’m glad I did.

Vision boards, or what I’ve also heard called “Treasure Maps” are a great idea for one who is striving for anything more. Vison boards motivate progression. The everyday pressures we face today though, in addition to the lack-of-time we constantly we feel, it’s easy to unintentionally postpone our ultimate goal, or focus.

So it’s all about progression. No one is trying to sugar coat anything. You take notice of the good and take notice of the bad. HowEVer, the energy and time we put forth should only be spent on the good and the positive. It’s all about optimism and trusting in the next day.

LoL, on a different note, if you happen to read this sometime near today, March 13, 1012, please feel free to email me. I think I saw you are in the state of CA and because your vision board included mutual funds, stocks AND a retirement plan, etc., I would LOVE to let you know of SAFE, and GUARANTEED retirement alternatives that don’t suffer the volatility of those MFs.

Anyway, best of luck and loved the post
