While studying law at NYU is seen as a great achievement, Mickey Williams made the decision to leave school in order to pursue life in the music industry.
Now known as Mickey Factz, he started his online rap career in 2005 when he wasn’t satisfied with the caliber of music New York rappers were producing. He wanted to follow his dreams and Hip Hop was apart of his catalyst.
Mickey’s music is a mixture of Hip-Hop, Club and Progressive music all rolled up into one. “I’d like to think I’m everything that Afrika Bambaataa would’ve envisioned hip-hop to be in 2008, 2016, 2030,” said Mickey Factz in a 2008 SPIN Magazine article.
Releasing his acclaimed 2008 mixtape
The Leak, Vol.1: The Understanding, Factz released one song every week for 17 weeks. He deemed himself as the “Digital Messiah” because of his tremendous online following and because of his stylish, honest and lyrical qualities that he exudes on and off the stage.
Socialtik Mag: What sets you apart from other artists? What makes you the “Digital Messiah”?
Mickey Facts: For me I just want to be known as someone who has been stylish, honest and lyrical at the same. When you get all of that from an artist, especially from the Bronx and New York City it kind of sets me apart automatically because New York artists are not stylish like that. They are lyrical, but sometimes they cannot be honest. But I do think those three qualities set me apart.
SM: What advice can you give up and coming artists?
MF: A lot of people say quality over quantity, but I say quantity equals quality and quality equals quantity. You have to make sure your content is consistent and be persistent. Don’t ever stop. If music is your dream, don’t ever stop your dream because you don’t know what can happen to you at the end of the day. You want to wake up every single day and do what you love.
