I went to bed last night praying for a new Kanye single and woke up to “Power.”
This is the first single off his highly anticipated 5th album “Good Ass Job” and it has caused the Internet to erupt in celebration of their favorite underdog.
After the firestorm West received from his 2009 MTV Music Awards when he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, many wrote off West and were determined to silence him forever. Shortly after the awards, West made an appearance on Jay Leno to explain the reasons behind his frenzy and announced that he would be taking a break from the music scene.
West traveled to Hawaii to record material for his new album with acclaimed producer Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Pharrel and several others. Many knew that the new Kanye album would strike a cord, however, many of the producers opted to stay quiet and respect West’s vision and work.
“Power” comes from a place many of us have not yet seen from Mr. West. With the striking drums and guitar, West releases a lot of frustration over the heavy bass line.
West confronts all the haters and unbelievers in this heartfelt track, yet explains to his loyal fans the reason for his absence. “I just needed time alone with my own thoughts,” he says. “Got treasures in my mind – But couldn’t open up my vaults – Reality is catching up with me – Taking my inner child – I’m fighting for custody.”
Towards the closing part of “Power” West denounces those who have only associated him with controversy, while saluting his many fans that still love and respect his music.
Def Jam has not yet commented on a release date for West’s “Good Ass Job,” but I know Kanye will give the fans what they’ve been patiently awaiting.
This just might be a great summer.
