Diggy’s freestyle “Made You Look” proves that yet another Simmons child is stepping out of the shadows of their legendary father, Rev Run.
It was from the popularized reality show Run’s House where we got to see the intimate settings of this family. Although their father is famous, the Simmons kids are treated just like ordinary children. Not everything is handed to them; like most children, they have to work in order to receive what they want out of life. With great inspiration and an unbreakable foundation, the Simmons kids were able to do just that.
They are not riding the coat tails of those who came before them; instead they are taking the reigns and utilizing their resources and creating an empire of their own. Vanessa and Angela Simmons who are young entrepreneurs are now owners of their own footwear line called Pastry’s, which is continuously expanding. Jojo is a part of a rap group called Team Blackout and is aiming to become a producer and rapper and now Daniel “Diggy” Simmons is following suit. He released his first mixtape “The First Flight” on December 2 of 2009.
Diggy is walking down the path paved by his father to becoming a rapper and he is currently working on a clothing line. At the age of 14, he is definitely holding his own weight. After recent views of his “Made You Look” freestyle, the media waves have been buzzing with constant comparisons to his older brother Jojo. While most people have been complimenting Diggy, they have also been degrading Jojo. On March 11 Diggy released this statement on his twitter page: “Everyone, I support my brother 1000% for real and everyone can say what they want but if u respect us as a family u won’t compare us. Thank u.”
Sticking up for his older brother displays his ability to be humble and after watching the video I must admit, the kid has some skills. Although this video only gives us a little to go on, he is definitely better than a lot of rappers in the game right now. #thetruthhurts
“Its been debated and contemplated if Diggy is overrated, but what the haters have stated never penetrated.”- Diggy Simmons
I like it even more every time I listen to it. So to all the critics, don’t hate on the Simmons – Respect their hustle.
