As a new recording sensation, Miguel has been covering a lot of territory and made me wonder, “What’s the deal with Miguel?”

This California native started his career at the young age of 13 and in the years since, he has been honing in on his musical talents. Before releasing his own music, Miguel was the man with the master lyrics, writing for artists like Mary J. Blige and Usher.  It wasn’t until 2007 that Miguel signed with Jive Records and began his journey as a singer.

With the release of “All I Want Is You” featuring J. Cole in November 2010, Miguel’s stardom has been steady on the rise. Self described as a “retro, super future artist,” Miguel’s style is often viewed as eclectic.

“I want people to connect with me on all different levels, not just music.” Although music is Miguel’s passion, his interests run far and wide. As a current trendsetter, Miguel interests in fashion and desire to positively expand the urban culture sets him apart from the rest of his peers.

Miguel isn’t just about the music, but more so into expanding his brand to connect with his audience on different levels. Currently, he is working on a customized neckpiece and has teamed up with other like-minded individuals and companies that exemplify the “retro, super future” style he proclaims.

As stylish as Miguel is, there’s no doubt that fashion is a key element of his persona. “I would like to be a fashion designer because I have so much respect for the art of it.” With a unique style of his own, Miguel credits top designers like Karl Lagerfield and Jean Paul Gaultier for his fashion sense, but also attributes the unknown designers as well. “I am really a fan of small designers that don’t really have a home, but are designing for themselves. Those are the people I am looking to collaborate with.”

“Within the next five years, I hope to be a mogul that effects both cultural and social changes through my music and through non-profits,” said Miguel.

With all that being said, the deal with Miguel is simple – he is here to stay. Miguel’s musical career continues to blossom, his social and cultural initiatives are on the rise and his “retro, super future” style continues to wow audiences. There’s no way Miguel won’t outshine the rest.
