With all the hype and leaked tracks surrounding Nicki Minaj’s debut album, Pink Friday, I must admit, I was very nonchalant and didn’t have many expectations.
After a push from my editor, I picked up a copy and to my disbelief, I actually vibe with Pink Friday. Since my expectations were low, I was pleasantly surprised by the versatility of the tracks. While listening to the album, I expected to hear sounds that would remind me of the cartoon character version of Nicki Minaj, making funny noises and moving about sporadically.
Instead, as I listened, I was able to catch glimpses of the many styles Nicki has to offer. I love that some of her songs display the soft and feminine aspects of her personality and music that aren’t always seen.
Overall, this album will definitely keep your ears entertained especially as you travel this Thanksgiving. I’m quite intrigued by her dynamic style and I’m eager to see how her career continues to evolve over time.
