No Sex in the Conference Room

Physical attraction in the workplace is a tough subject.

There are a lot of complicated things to think about concerning such a simple action. You see someone, you’re attracted to them and then you think about the possibilities, but what if there can’t be any possibilities?

Many businesses have a no fraternizing rule. Personal relationships between employees can create an uncomfortable and non-conducive work environment for the parties involved. This is where my problem comes in. Honestly, as a single female, I just can’t help but think about getting a little personal with a guy that has a beautiful body and goes to the gym during his lunch break. I think this is a situation many young professionals have been in or will run into during their careers.

I’ve never quite had this problem before. I’ve always worked in environments that were either predominantly female or I didn’t find any of the guys to be attractive. I find myself in a new predicament. I think the most important thing to do when in this kind of situation is not to be obvious. Sometimes that’s impossible, but it’s the best way not to make a fool of yourself. Keep cool and say as little as possible. It helps those 8 hours go by a lot faster.

As soon as I thought I had things under control with my new office crush, it got slightly messy.  One day while I was checking out my crush a co-worker was checking me out! This should be easy for me, but it’s the weirdest thing ever. Being that my admirer has sparked conversation on numerous occasions, I can feel free to be myself. It’s as though he isn’t giving me any signals. I am definitely always attracted to a good conversation way more than a chiseled body. However, a handsome guy with a chiseled body is hard to ignore.

In the midst of my excitement that I could possibly attract two guys at once I remembered I was at work. Not that I had forgotten the environment we were in, but it has been a lot going on. I am professional at all times, but the thoughts running through my head most of the time may be unprofessional (to some). I can honestly see why businesses have strict policies in place.

The possibilities could be endless, but I wouldn’t say it’s wise to explore a beginning. If anyone should ever run into the same problem, just follow Dashing Diva’s 3 Rules for Workplace Attraction:

Rule #1-Be oblivious to everything

Rule #2-Be yourself

Rule #3– Be professional
