Picture Perfect: Djay Bonaparte

photo 4

Duane Bonaparte (Djay) began his journey with photography in 2007, when he teamed up with Stephen Hudson ( Se7en ). The photography that they created was amazing and strong. Giving me the idea to start a magazine directed towards signature photography.

Djay was born and raised in New York and at the age of 24, he has lived in every borough in the city except Queens.
He admires the power of photography and believes that having the opportunity to freeze time in a photo, is nothing less than epic. He strives to capture images filled with emotions and great stature.

Djay has done shoots with a couple of native New York artists such as Jayms Madison and Drew Vision. He’s also worked with Eye Wear designer Kidear Youmans.

He recently started a production team called ClearLife and is very excited about the opportunities that exist on the horizon for his team.

How would you describe your style of photography to someone who has never seen your work?

My style of photography is very eye catching. I believe that photographs should pull in a variety of onlookers.

What initially sparked your interest in photography and what keeps it going?

I love memories! Any piece of time I can keep and save is a dream fulfilled for me. Why not keep a life time of photography to share with someone else after my life is done.

How do you ensure that your work and brand stand out amongst the masses of photographers that continue to emerge everyday?

I believe that there is a spot for everyone in the category that they are destined for. I am Djay and only I can shoot the greatness that comes from me. There is no competition in originality.

From who or where do you draw inspiration from and how is it reflected in your work?

Honestly Life is my inspiration. Its very intricate and powerful. As long as I’m living I’ll continue to capture the awesome phenomenon called Life.

What is one long term goal you have relative to your photography and how do you plan to attain it?

I’m working towards building a production team ( Clear Life ) and I’m hoping for a lot to spring from it. Most of all I’m anxious to produce a photography Magazine! Something for everyone. Fashions, Sports, Politics, Entertainment, etc.

What is one major business-related challenge you face being a photographer and how have you or will you combat this issue?

Many people look pass the importance of photography and good photographers. They think ” I can do my own photography for free, I don’t need a professional photographer.” So it is imperative for photographers to keep a high level of quality in there work. This will ensure a promising future for photography because customers appreciate quality.

Name one person that you would love to have an opportunity to shoot and why. Describe this dream shoot.

Definitely Oprah. She has accomplished more than anyone I know personally and that inspires me. When one person can go from rags to riches and live without bitterness, i give respect.  I would love to shoo her in two different locations. Her estate where she lives now and where she was originally born. Showing her triumph.

If you could do a dual purpose shoot that showcased your talent and brought awareness to a prevalent social issue, what would your shoot be called and what issue would you highlight? Why?

I am very interested in finding help and shelter for our homeless citizens. I would and have been planning a shoot named “Me Too” that highlights the personality and lifestyles of homeless people in different areas. Showing that they are human as well and deserve just as much as we all do. I chose this issue because i hate to see and living being without a home or food. Id give my last for another. Id want the same is I was in their shoes.
