Picture Perfect: Patrick Neree

AlexisJordan

When Patrick started to understand what megapixels really determined and what resolution does for a photo, he became curious about the art of real photography and not just snapping a point and shoot. He invested in his first SLR camera in the spring of 2009 and never put it down.

In June of 2009, he quit his full time job as a manager in retail and pursued photography full time, started his photography company Neree Photos and used slick catch phrases like “Capture your life in HD” to market his growing business.

Currently Patrick Neree is finding new ways to better assist his clients and also planning new business avenues to broaden the Neree Photos brand. In addition, he is also directing and you can find his videos online under Neree Cinemas.

How would you describe your style of photography to someone who has never seen your work?

A breath of fresh air. A couple of words I would use is candid, playful and real with an urban twist.

What initially sparked your interest in photography and what keeps it going?

Initially it was the questions I had like “Why do the photos come out so clear?” that attracted me to photography and with that curiosity, it sparked an interest that I now have a passion for. What keeps me wanting more, is the creative possibilities and the fact that there’s always something new to learn no matter how much you think you know.

How do you ensure that your work and brand stand out amongst the masses of photographers that continue to emerge everyday?

Well for one, I stay true to myself, I wouldn’t start shooting a way another person does, just because it’s trending. I stick to my guns which is what pretty much made all my clients fall in love with me in the first place. Everyone that sees my brand, Neree, and the logo “N”  never forgets it and they say, “I seen your work before,”  it just sticks. One added benefit is that I’m also a director, so I use video to play out the story that one photo couldn’t tell.

From who or where do you draw inspiration from and how is it reflected in your work?

I draw my inspiration from anybody who pretty much took control of there lives and became successful entrepreneurs like Sean Combs, Sean Carter or Curtis Jackson. It shows that reaching that kind of success is attainable even if given a different circumstance. By believing in yourself and your craft, you can control your world in a sense. It reflects in my work simply through the time and dedication I put into it, i believe that no matter how small the project, you have to put 110% into it. You never know who is watching.

What is one long term goal you have relative to your photography and how do you plan to attain it?

One long term goal I have is that  I would be opening a school not only to teach photography, but also teach kids how to find there talents. It’s something that baffled me at on point – I didn’t know what I wanted to do for my whole High school career and i felt like I had no purpose other than to get on my mothers nerves. I believe that as my brand grows, more opportunities will come my way and I will be begin making the necessary steps to achieve my goal.

What is one major business-related challenge you face being a photographer and how have you or will you combat this issue?

One major business related challenge I faced was undercutting my work and I believe that’s something I learned from. You can’t allow someone else to tell you what your work is worth. At the end of the day, even after the photos are taken, you still have to go home and devote time to editing photos. So I’m working even after our shoot is over and now I make sure that I’m paid what my time is worth. You can’t walk into my office with Louis Vuitton and Gucci and complain about price, it just doesn’t add up.

Name one person that you would love to have an opportunity to shoot and why. Describe this dream shoot.

I guess it would have to be Katherine Heigl (Knocked Up, The Ugly Truth). She’s an actress with an amazing smile and features that embodies natural beauty. I just became a big fan of her look and the characters she plays in her films. She recently graced the cover of Instyle magazine and on page 351. I would have shot her just like that – beautiful candids on an open field.

If you could do a dual purpose shoot that showcased your talent and brought awareness to a prevalent social issue, what would your shoot be called and what issue would you highlight? Why?

The social issue would have to be the lack of a solid educational system. The rate students are dropping out of school means less kids on the street with the essential knowledge that they need. Maybe a way to make school cool because it seems being cool is all these kids want to be, but you can’t pay bills with cool points.

A picture is worth a 1,000 words. Describe the below picture in one.

Timeless
