The thought of a man having more than one wife is not something I can even fathom.
However, with the popularity of such shows as “Big Love” and the more recent “Sister Wives,” the idea of polygamy is getting more than it’s fifteen minutes of fame in conversations everywhere!
Polygamy is a form of marriage in which a person has more than one spouse at the same time. Hello! Cheaters never really seem to prosper, but in this case, there’s no need to cheat when you have all of your options right in front of you.
Of course we all knew that polygamy is against the law in America, however it still practiced. The two shows mentioned earlier have exposed it and shed light onto something that many people, mainly men, could truly only fantasize about.
Women are already faced with the plight of being labeled as too needy or jealous, now the poster children of “All for one and one for all” have made that discussion a tad bit more heated. The institution of marriage is sacred and should be between man and woman, not man and WOMEN.
I’ve never been married before, but more than woman or man at a time isn’t a form of couple’s therapy. Someone more than willing to share their heart and body with multiple persons at onetime is not ready to be married, but that’s if you asked me.
One can’t help but think that the women involved in the marriages have some type of low-self esteem and/or self- worth. There are issues of insecurity and distrust among the women sharing a spouse because one may seem to be getting more attention than the other. Since when have wedding vows included, “For low self-esteem and insecurities, I thee wed.”? Husbands are supposed to make their wives feel as though no other woman can compare.
I do imagine that to be quite a task for a man with five wives and I bet it’s pretty hard for for a woman with live-in mistresses to believe that.
Maybe it’s a surefire way to keep the divorce rate down, who knows? With “Big Love” ending after five seasons and “Sister Wives” being picked up for a second, the need to wonder is no more.
