Russell Simmons has his sight set on a new media venture – television. The hip hop mogul is looking to purchase his own TV network that is “integrated,” “diverse” and accurately reflects American culture.
“When mainstream networks say diversity, they mean segregation..There’s all these cultures that should be more integrated properly. There’s a lack of integration in Hollywood, and I want to address that,” he said recently during a charity event in Hong Kong.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Simmons also revealed that he is working with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard on a television project.
Simmons is the latest celebrity to hint about a personal TV network venture. Buzz circulated earlier this year when news spread that Tyler Perry was in talks of forming his own channel.
Simmons promised a formal announcement about ‘Simmons TV’ soon. “Now you’ve heard about it. It’s going to happen,” he said.
