How to Become a Super Human

Our personal power is our internal vital energy that allows us to move with purpose and integrity. It is the force that guides us to make powerful choices to have a positive impact on those around us.

superhumanWhen do we draw on our personal power? When we use our voice to speak out for ourselves and advocate for others, when we focus on what matters to us and to our communities, when we act with clear intention to positively impact others and we make things happen!

What does it take? It takes body, mind, and spirit unity.

I recently attended a professional development seminar regarding Personal Power by Stand Tall Leadership. Admittedly, I had a few reservations going into to seminar. I consider myself a natural leader. It is part of my zodiac sign. I like to be in control of my life and its various situations. However, a leader to me is also a team player. A team player must also be willing to step up and step down when needed. A team player must always be willing to learn from others, and in this case it was our seminar leader: Ms. Reba Rose.

Ms. Rose was an excellent leader. The seminar was very intriguing to say the least and she automatically deemed herself as “the life of the party.” Upon beginning the seminar, she posed the question, “When was the last time you felt like you we’re in complete personal power?”

Our whole group froze at the question.  Sure the room was filled with leaders, but the question innately made us think. When did I feel like I was in complete personal power?

Immediately, I thought of my collegiate experience. My decision to attend college a million miles away from home required serious personal power. I could have easily gone down the wrong road, but I knew my family had invested a lot in order to get me there. Additionally, one of my biggest fears is failure. Thus, the end outcome was solely in the palm of my hands.

Ms. Rose also left us four principles of leadership:

Show up and choose to be present: Mentally, physically, and emotionally. I am a victim of making to-do lists’ in my head, tweeting on my phone, thinking about my outfit for the night while something important is going on. Focus is key!

Pay attention to what has heart and meaning: Oftentimes, we throw ourselves into our careers and aspirations neglecting things that matter most: the love of family and friends.

Tell the truth without blame or judgment: Always be truthful with people. Never be judgmental. At the same time, acknowledge your faults, and work to make them a positive.

Be open to the outcome, not attached to the outcome: Many of us have already painted a perfect picture of what we want. Own a house, drive around in a nice car, and open our own business by 25. Those are all great goals but they are easier said than done. So what if you are 27 and still paying rent? The point is, you are one step closer to your goal. Be flexible, that may not be what you need at the moment.
