The 54

The 54

It’s Wednesday night and I’m headed to Asylum to see The 54. I’ve never been and have no idea what to expect from the club or The 54. I walk into the club, it is dimly lit with red velvet draping and The 54 is setting up on the glass stage, which faces the main street. I’m just in time.

As soon as The 54 starts playing I’m immediately taken back to my high school days when I listened to Green Day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Yellowcard. Their sound makes you do a double take and say, “Wow! Is that them? Playing that music?”

I’m smacked back into reality when a girl from the audience yells; “DOMINATE!”, after the band asks what song they should do next. The crowd goes absolutely wild. The band drops the beat and everyone leaps to their feet. Mercury, guitarist, the ultimate showman, jumps up and down to the beat and across the stage. Meanwhile Mike, drummer, has ripped off his shirt and is rocking with the people outside the club. The audience knows every word.

The 54 really knows how to give it to the crowd and the crowd gives it right back. The energy is crazy. When The 54 leaves the stage the energy is still running high! What a great way to end your Wednesday night.

The 54The 54 is straight out of Atlanta, Georgia and Washington, D.C. is their umpteenth stop on their multi-city tour. The 54 is composed of Enye Willingham (Guitar/vocals), Walt Chastang (Guitar/vocals), Mercury Jackson (Bass/bagpipes) and Mike Jones (Drums). It was destiny that formed this group and created the band that specializes in getting the crowd up on their feet and partying to their rock and roll sound.

From their early beginnings at Morehouse College, The 54’s development  and growth from  an experimental acoustic project to the rock outfit they’ve become is evident. None of the band members majored in music while in college, but being inspired by different acts such as Muse, Incubus and Rage Against the Machine, they have developed their talents into what it is today.

The 54

As the only band of its kind, The 54 is definitely on their grind and striving to become better. “We push each other – whether musically, performance-wise or from a business standpoint. We have a corporate culture amongst ourselves  that demands excellence. It’s just understood that we expect nothing less of each other,” says The 54. The band attributes social media as the main source of promotion to distribute their music to the masses and engage with fans.

Using this tour to perfect their showmanship and on stage presence, The 54 has major aspirations to sell out major arenas such as Wembley Stadium,  change the landscape of the industry for the better and contribute something worthwhile to the world around us.

With their unique sound, strong fan base and ‘Crazy’ songs, The 54 will definitely ‘Dominate’ the air waves soon.
