The Looking Glass: From The Outside Looking In

“You were not expected to aspire to excellence: you were expected to make peace with mediocrity.” James Baldwin

When most people look at you, I’m sure they think that you have it all together.

They ask you, “What else can you possibly want or need?” or say things like “You are in a pretty good position.”

From the outside looking in, most people think that everything is golden and they can see no wrong.

But many do not see behind the glitz and glamour.  This frustrates me so much, because people fail to realize that what may look like or seem to be a blessing is in some aspect really a curse.  People do not see the blood or the sweat that goes into maintaining our sanity.

They do not see the sleepless nights or the tears that we cry in our own isolation.

Only WE know this constant “STUCK” feeling?

This inner struggle, of knowing that life is MORE than this transient way of living…  Yet still we are yearning for so much but have no idea how to get there.

What do you do?  How do we make it to happy?  How do I achieve all that I desire?

What scares me the most is that I have not begun to break the surface of my potential.

In order to be successful, we have to start feeding our dreams instead of starving them.

Whether or not our attempts are right, we’ll never know, but I truly believe there will be a peace that comes when we live our purpose.

Life is hard.

Do NOT allow those around you to define who you are or what you want.

Always STRIVE for WHATEVER it is that is in your heart, because MEDIOCRITY is FAILURE.

Declare to both YOURSELF and the WORLD that “Where I’m going there is only standing room” and the

  1. finally a voice for our hearts ; def great words of encouragement & truth….keep up the good work danni

  2. Great Article. Very Relatable.

  3. I do like the whole article but this : “Do NOT allow those around you to define who you are or what you want” and “MEDIOCRITY is FAILURE” ; the failure is to refuse failure ; success is to accept failure ; we all have mediocrity in us, fight against it is a thing, pretending it doesn’t exist ot gettin rid of people that have their own light (thus their own greatness to share) is pretty much a declaration of self love from a blind ego

  4. I truly believe there will be a peace that comes when we live our purpose too!I’m sure they think that you have it all together
