Socialtik Mag caught up with Mr.Guess Who Loves You More, Raheem Devaughn, in D.C. at his album release party for his third studio album, The Love & War Masterpeace.
The deluxe double disc album hit stores on March 2. The compilation of love and socially conscience tunes will definitely make you want to visit the Garden of Love and stop living your life like it’s Bulletproof. This collection shows the true colors and the creative insight of the R&B Hippie and Neo-Soul Rockstar.
Raheem Devaughn was clearly soaking in all the energy of the party and the success of his album release when Socialtik stopped by to ask him a few questions.
Socialtik Mag: What was your inspiration to create a socially conscience and love double album?
Raheem Devaughn: I’ve always had a desire to create a double CD. But I wanted to have a concept and purpose that made sense for releasing that much music.
STM: How did The Love and War Masterpeace come about?
RD: I actually started working on this album while I was working on my last album, Love Behind the Melody. I went to Wayne Williams and told him I really have a vision for a project that I dreamed about. Although my budget was done they gave me four or five days in the studio with an engineer to get as much done as possible. Within that time, I was able to complete 90 percent of the War side of the album. But I literally dreamed about this album.
STM: How does the socially conscience side of the album tie into your personal beliefs?
RD: I feel like we are living in the last days of time. I feel that we should make love not war and that we should get closer to God. Loving each other and loving the Earth should be key. That’s my whole position on that and I try to tie it into the music.
The new 28 track Masterpeace is filled with sounds of love and awareness, with wise words from Dr. Cornel West and major collaborations from the Who’s Who in the music game. A few of the guest artists on the album include Anthony Hamilton, Wale, Chrisette Michele, Ludacris, Ledisi, Chico DeBarge, and Damian Marley.
Devaughn’s positivity and outlook on life is evident in his personality and music. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that his latest Masterpeace will not fall short of a true and classic Masterpiece.
