The Top 5 Stories to Follow This NFL Season

In the midst of a brand new football season, here are the five most compelling stories you should follow.

Brett Favre decides to take his talents back to Minnesota

Quarterback Brett Favre will return for what will be his 20th NFL season. After months of speculation, the legendary quarterback confirmed his return to the gridiron by saying, “I owe it to this organization to give it one more try.”

Brett Favre, who had the best statistical year of his career in ’09, led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC championship, but lost to the eventual Super Bowl Champs New Orleans Saints. This year, the future hall of famer saw his preseason action cut short after a devastating hit by 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis. So as time winds down to the opening kick-off, I am glad to see the great Brett Favre in uniform once again as I cant imagine an NFL season without him. However, I am afraid that he might regret this decision as it seems that family time has finally caught up to him. Nevertheless, we should appreciate his work on the field in what looks like will be his final NFL season. When it’s all said and done he will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play this game.

The Chad Ochocinco and Terrel Owens Show

Two of the most lucrative personalities in football will join forces this year as wide-receiver Terrel Owens teams up with Chad Ochocinco in Cincinnati. The reality T.V. Stars, who are known to be close friends, will try to bring the Bengal franchise out of a playoff slump. Though the dynamic duo will bring much needed entertainment and attention to the city of Cincinnati, the main objective is to win. If the Bengals get off to a losing start, it will be interesting to see if the egos boil over. Regardless of the outcome, it should be quite a show in Bengal town.

Shanahan, McNabb looks to turn things around in Washington

After 11 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Donovan McNabb will play Quarterback for Philly rival the Washington Redskins. Though the 33-year-old McNabb has lost a step and is entering the twilight of his career, he is still an upgrade to a team that has struggled to solidify the position in recent years. Another area that has been shaky for the franchise has been the head coaching position. The acquisition of Super Bowl winning coach Mike Shanahan will bring a much needed winning attitude to the team. With other negative elements looking to be on their way out the door (I.e. Albert Haynesworth), the Washington Redskins seem to be heading in the right direction. Expect a slight improvement this season.

A talented rookie class looks to make an impact on the NFL

Rookies C.J. Spiller and Sam Bradford will spear-head their respective teams this season. First overall pick Quarterback Sam Bradford will lead the St. Louis Rams as they look to get back to relevancy. The explosive running back C.J. Spiller will lead a Buffalo Bill running attack that ranked amongst one of the worst in the league last season. Another rookie to keep a close eye on is Denver Bronco Quarterback Tim Tebow. The University of Florida standout has shown some limitation as Quarterback in his young NFL career which has led some to believe that Tebow would be better suited to play half-back or tight-end in the NFL. We will see how his development into an NFL player pans out.

Is there a possible 2011 season lockout for the NFL?

Yes. The economy has hit the country hard and not much is different for the National Football League.

The players association and owners are yet to come to a bargaining agreement on incentives for the 2011 NFL season. If both parties fail to come to an agreement a lockout can be put in place. As it stands, commissioner Roger Goodell is considering extending the regular season to 18-games to create more revenue. For now, no final decision has been made, more on this story as the season progresses.
