It’s amazing when entertainers go above and beyond to give back to their communities, especially when it’s enhancing the education and lives of young people.
Through the Gibson Girl Foundation, singer Deborah Gibson recently launched the Only In My Jeans auction which features autographed jeans from celebrities. If you are not already aware of who she is, Debbie Gibson is a powerful force in the entertainment industry. Having arrived on the pop music scene at the age of 16, she became the youngest person to ever write, produce and perform a #1 single “Foolish Beat.” She still holds this record today.
Debbie has received ASCAP songwriter of the year awards, platinum albums and billboard hits and performances. She has been in Broadway shows such as the London west end production of “Grease “ where she broke box office records in her role as “Sandy.”
The Only In My Jeans auction will run from May 4th to May 12th 2010. Celebrities such as Ryan Seacrest, Hillary Duff, Lance Bass, Rick Fox, Cast members of Desperate housewives and Reba McEntire have signed and donated their jeans for this cause. Shaquille O’Neal will also be auctioning off a pair of signed sneakers.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise scholarship money for qualifying youth in the Gibson Girl Foundation who want to attend entertainment camp, but aren’t able to afford the camp’s tuition. In 2008, the Gibson Girl Foundation awarded more than $75,000 in scholarships to young performers.
Did I mention that she was raised in Long Island? #TeamNYC
Hmmm… I wonder what my jeans will be worth one day – bidding starts at $250.00
