Lorraine Murphy is an artist who is always bursting at the seams with new ways to express her creativity.
Starting a Cupcakery was the perfect way to blend her artistic ideas with her desire to create a fun and sweet business.
Before opening the cupcakery, she was (and still is) a Pinup Photographer who focuses on the 1950’s look which has been carried over into her cupcake business with it’s 1950’s flair.
What sets you apart from other culinary professionals?
I am an extremely creative individual who thinks outside of the box. This is shown not only in our branding, but also with the fact that we have the only DOUBLE DECKER MOBILE CAFE in the US and the only Cupcake one in the world!
Please explain your area(s) of expertise in the kitchen? How did you develop this passion?
I grew up baking in the kitchen with my mother who taught me a lot of the fundamentals I use today. From there, my artistic mind has helped me create new flavors or ways of displaying the cupcakes, etc.
If you had to compare yourself to a dish, with both ingredients and presentation considered, what dish would you be? Why?
Since we make cupcakes, I would consider myself to be the Cotton Candy cupcake that we make. It is extremely colorful and very sweet with a surprise baked inside .
With the holidays approaching, what is your favorite “traditional” dish? How would you add your touch to make it unique so that it represents your style?
My favorite holiday cupcake is EGGNOG, because we use real eggnog in addition to other spices that make it just like the real thing!!! Presentation is so important, so we put a unique holiday twist on this fun cupcake that is typically just white frosting.
Where do you see yourself and business in the next five years? How do you plan to attain that goal?
I see us open throughout the US in multiple locations and Bettie’s Cakes a household name. We are quickly branding our business and logo, etc and branching out with regional locations and establishing a streamlined approach to opening new locations. We are opening our 4th “location” on November 1st in less than one year so I am confident we will be able to bring sweetness to more people throughout America soon.
