What’s Cookin? Your Fav Designer on A Pastry

Jadore 2

Gamali Elias is a talented cake designer who creates tasty custom confections. At the age of 9, she was first introduced to baking and cake decorating by her grandmother, Joan Barrow. Before becoming a professional cake designer, she worked as an administrative manager and event planner. What started out as just a hobby is now a blooming business.  Always known for her painted and sculpted works of art, Gamali decided that it was time to show the world what she can do.

What sets you apart from other culinary professionals?

Most culinary professionals gain their experience through culinary school. But my experience was gained by the teachings of my grandmother, Joan Barrow, and my artistic skills.

Please explain your area(s) of expertise in the kitchen? How did you develop this passion?

I bake and decorate custom cakes and cupcakes. This passion developed as I always watched and assisted my grandmother when she would create a cake. I especially loved to see her make sugar flowers. They look so real!

If you had to compare yourself to a dish, with both ingredients and presentation considered, what dish would you be? Why?

A strawberry shortcake. Its light, fluffy, not too sweet, and looks delicious at first sight.

With the holidays approaching, what is your favorite “traditional” dish? How would you add your touch to make it unique so that it represents your style?

A dish called Callaloo. It’s a popular dish in my family’s country, Trinidad. Callaloo cooked with crabs is the best!

Where do you see yourself and business in the next five years? How do you plan to attain that goal?

I see myself continuing to live my dream as a remarkable cake designer. I’m passionate about everything I create and overjoyed when I see a happy customer. My business will hopefully blossom into what it should be, a well renowned cake studio that makes life delicious and beautiful.
