The Council of Fashion Designers of America teams up with eBay to fight back against counterfeits and knock-offs. The CFDA launched a new collection of totes that reads, “You Can’t Fake Fashion.” There was a lot of support from fashion lovers because the tote sold out within a few hours.
Last year, congress passed a bill making counterfeit and knock-off fashions a federal offense and these fashionable tote bags were made to stand up to the people that do not appreciate real fashion. According to TheStreet.com, “Counterfeits are a critical issue to CFDA, eBay and the fashion industry at large,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA Executive Director. “We’re excited to collaborate on this important campaign to educate consumers on the dangers of counterfeits and emphasize the importance of original design.” The “You Can’t Fake Fashion” totes were sold for $150 and the standard bag was sold for $35.
There were 50 CFDA members that designed for this campaign including such greats as Diane von Furstenburg, Tommy Hilfiger, Vivienne Tam, and Jason Wu. All the proceeds from this fight of illegal fashion will go to the CFDA Foundation.
