One of the main things I admire about Ms. Oprah Winfrey is her humble belief in giving back.
Since it started, I have been glued to Oprah’s new OWN network. There is a show she has called, “Your OWN Show,” which awards a lucky individual with a lifelong dream of their own talk show. That sounds pretty awesome to me! However, instead of waiting for someone to believe in you, it’s imperative that you begin to establish your brand yourself.
Wikipedia defines personal branding as a process whereby people and their careers are marked as brands. The concept suggests that success comes from self-packaging.
In today’s society, the world is full of brands. If you look down, you will see a swoosh symbol, which is connected to Nike. If you look at a Billboard, you will see the slogan, “I’m lovin’ it,” which is connected to McDonalds. Each of these brand leaders had to sit and strategically think of what it is that can establish them as a leader in this competitive playing field.
Regardless of age, position and/or business that we happen to be in, all of us need to understand the importance of branding. Whether you realize it or not, we are CEOs of our own companies: Me Incorporated. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for your personal brand.
Branding is important for anyone who is job searching or building their career. It’s important to create a personal brand that portrays you in a professional light and which provides employers and contacts with a strong and positive impression of you as a high-caliber individual who would be an asset to their organization.
To put things into perspective, consider the brand of celebrity and real estate mogul, Donald Trump. He is without a doubt a household name. With luxury hotels, steakhouses and various other investments, he attaches his last name to each. Doing this has helped him to establish a loyal client and partner base that can vouch for his personal brand.
As a brand, always remember that people are watching you. They are watching how you position your image, how you invest your money, what you invest it in and how you carry yourself-at all times.
Are you ready to take your personal brand to the next level? There are plenty of lessons that we can learn from big brands that will give us knowledge on what it takes to stand out and prosper in the new world of personal branding.
I will share a new article with you next week that will go into further detail regarding the establishment and growth of your personal brand. Stay tuned!
