Young, Black and Fabulous

Thanks to Kimora Lee Simmons, the term fabulosity is embraced by so many women in America. Many associate this way of life with lavishly decked out diamonds, cars, clothes and other luxuries, but being fabulous goes further than your material possessions.

Being fabulous comes from within. Embodying the characteristics of a beautiful person on the inside will allow you to shine in so many ways. A fabulous woman incorporates being confident, a trailblazer, goal oriented, open minded, God fearing, intelligent, well read and one who embraces her inner diva!

Twenty-three year old Jessica Burks believes in these qualities so much that she started her own company centered on enhancing and unleashing the inner diva in all woman.

Just three months ago, this young entrepreneur started www.imfeelingfab.org. She just wrapped up her first annual seminar entitled, “Unleash and Enhance the Inner DIVA In You.” This inspiring seminar allowed women to partake in a day of networking, beauty tips, music, art, speeches, poetry, prayers and laughter.

During the seminar, the audience was enlightened by speeches about taking risks, traveling, embracing other cultures, setting goals, embracing oneself, being a leader, dating, and becoming the best woman you can be.

The Fabulous roster of guest speakers included:

  • Relationship Expert, Dee Jaye Clark
  • Celebrity Stylist/Author, Crystal Wright
  • Award winning poet/Author, Alice the Poet
  • Miss Plus Top Model, Ayanna Eubank
  • Actress/Comedian/Producer and talk show host, Kim E. Whitley

My personal favorite was Los Angles guru and entrepreneur, Fleace’ Weaver, the founder of the Los Angles social website Black Weekly (www.blackweekly.com) and Black Girl Travel (www.blackgirltravel.com). Black Girl Travel, produces an 11 day, seven city, all black female tour to Northern Italy called “Bella Italia.” This tour exposes black women to the beauty existent in other cultures while simultaneously exposing other cultures to the beauty of Black women. In fact, Jessica was inspired to start her company after taking a trip with the Bella’s where they gave her the nick name, “Baby Bella.”

In order to find out what makes her so fabulous, Socialtik asked Jessica Burks a few insightful questions…

Socialtik Mag:  How did you come up with the concept and name of your company?

Jessica: Well, before I go anywhere, I look in the mirror and say, “I look and feel FABULOUS,” even on the worst days! You can’t rely on others to compliment you, so every morning, I compliment myself! After deciding that I wanted to start a foundation, and Feeling Fabulous was the first name that came to mind.

SM: What makes you feel fabulous?

Jessica: So much makes me feel fabulous!! Having peace of mind, traveling, going to church regularly, paying my own rent, knowing my self-worth, having my hair done, shopping, knowing that I have a supportive man, following my instinct and boots, boots and more boots!

SM: Give me five things that everywoman should have or do to make them feel fabulous:

Jessica:

  • A bible (with God, your destination is endless)
  • The book “30 days at 100%” by, Crystal Wright
  • One fabulous pair of boots or 6 inch stilettos
  • A pair of jeans that fit to a T (it always feel’s good when your not tugging and pulling at your pants all day)
  • A FEELING FABULOUS MEMBERSHIP CARD!

SM: What are your ultimate goals for your company?

Jessica: My goal for Feeling Fabulous is to teach young and old women how to embrace their inner beauty! I want them to love the person they are right now – before they lose the 10 pounds, or before they change your hair style. I want women to love themselves no matter what, and embrace their transformation! My goal for 2010 and 2011 is for Feeling Fabulous to have a contract with The Los Angeles Unified School District. I want to host seminars at every junior high and high school to teach girls how to love their self inside-out, and how the decisions they make will stay with them forever.

Jessica just received her first contract with Fremont High School in Los Angeles, to host seminars. This “SHE-ro” is on a move and ready to take over the world, making each woman as fabulous as fabulous can be!

  4. The first time I met Jessica, she was like a breath of fresh air. I don’t often meet people with the same type of energy and motivation as myself. So to be in the presence of her was a delight. We’ve kept in touch ever since, and I’m in full support of what she’s doing. Her fist seminar was fantastic and the speakers she had really inspired and motivated me to keep on doing what I’m doing, that much more. So if they were able to touch me, I’m sure they touched many other people! Jessica and The Feeling Fabulous Organization ROCKS, and I only wish the best for her:)

  7. That Empress V. is “maybe hipper than hip”,her revelations to this public are enlightening and personal to the point she is recognized as the”girl next door” and some families special daughter or sibling. I have the pleasure and honor of knowing this 'Honey Chile' personally,so my input may be a bit biased…but then again I AM WORTHY to comment. “I'm not rappin,I'm fakkin”.

  8. Jessica! It was so effortless for me to write this story! You are amazing, and I am truly blessed to have met you! Now we must do lunch soon!!!
