“Just another celebrity kid in a band” is what I initially thought when I first learned of the Zoe Kravitz’s band Elevator Fight.
I was absolutely wrong. As I witnessed “Elevator Fight” live several days ago at New York City’s hotspot ,The Delancey, I became a believer. There’s no doubt that the band’s name threw me off, as well as it’s lead singer being the daughter of rocker Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet.
However, being the skeptic that I am, I instantly fell in love with “Elevator Fight’s” sound as well as lead vocalist Zoe Kravitz. The band which was formed a little over a year ago instantly grabbed the public’s attention after landing gigs at South by Southwest and The Roots annual picnic in Philadelphia.
Carefully stepping away from her parent’s shadow, Zoe Kravitz along with band members Joe Baldacci, Dominic Angelella, Khari Mateen, Nick Bockrath and Rick Friedrich offer their twist on alternative rock.
During their set, a combination of the bass, drums and guitar with Zoe’s gentle vocals and shy demeanor that captures you. Overall it’s a band that is not defined by Zoe’s heritage, yet the love of her bandmates and incredible lyrics that let you know this isn’t just a celebrity child finding her way, yet a true talent we should keep an eye on.
My favorite song of that night’s show was “Eye of the Pyramid” and believe me there are many more.
